Although John Keats’s poem “Endymion” (1818) is not widely regarded as the English Romantic poet’s finest work, its opening line “A thing of beauty is a joy for ever” persists as poetic treacle on social media. Surely Keats could not have envisaged one day seeing his letters rendered in garish script over top stock imagery of a sunset or floral bouquet.
